Opportunity at VITA

Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to empower and normalize the lives of individuals with disabilities? VITA is currently seeking a Part Time Direct Care Worker to join our dynamic team working a minimum of 2 shifts per week.

In this role you will facilitate empowerment and normalization in both pre vocational and recreational settings, contributing to the implementation of Personal Support Plans (PSP) designed to enhance overall life skills and quality of life.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement PSP to enhance members’ life skills and quality of life.
  • Act as a role model, supporting members in learning strategies aligned with community safety and treatment goals.
  • Assist members with complex behavioral needs, some of whom may be connected with the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and the Ontario Review Board.
  • Ensure open communication of program and member needs through established communication systems.
  • Facilitate communication with various service systems, maintaining documentation and advocating for members as required.
  • Administer and record prescribed medications as per medical practitioner instructions and agency policies.
  • Provide assistance with personal care and hygiene, feeding, dressing, position changes, and care, maintenance, and use of supporting equipment.
  • Ensure health, safety, and welfare of members by performing general house cleaning.
  • Organize leisure activities and community integration initiatives according to members’ needs and interests.
  • Arrange and/or provide transportation to day programs, family visits, and other essential places.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possession of a D.S.W, S.S.W, C.Y.W, Behavioral Science Technology, or equivalent degree or diploma, or actively enrolled in a relevant program.
  • Attainment of a pharmacology certificate, safe management certificate, and First Aid & CPR.
  • Valid G or G2 Driver’s License.
  • Competencies in advocating for others, collaboration, creative problem solving fostering independence, initiative, interpersonal relations, respect and resilience.

Shifts: Saturday and Sunday (8 am – 4 pm)
