Mental Health Support Worker

Location: Vancouver Island (multiple opportunities available)

Salary Range (hourly rate): $30.64 – $32.31

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Community Social Services (e.g., Mental Health Worker, Community Health Worker or Social Services Worker) with additional post secondary education in counseling skills training.
  • A minimum of two years of recent related experience working with individuals with mental illness involving life skills teaching or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and the Guardianship Act.
  • Familiarity with available programs, their interrelationships and their role in delivering community care.
  • Understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation principles employing a client centered approach.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous health issues, protocols and health needs encompassing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of clients and communities.
  • Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry may be required for specific hospital positions.
  • Proficient knowledge of harm reduction philosophy and practice.
  • Current Level C Basic Life Saving Certificate.
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle license.
  • Food Safe Certificate considered an asset.
