Chelsea would most likely be in the market this summer for a defender this summer as they’re yet to sort out contract issues with Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.
If at least one of the above players listed do not sign a contract extension, Chelsea would have no choice but to sign a new defender and Juventus centre-back Mathijs De Ligt is one of the names being strongly linked.
De Ligt is well valued by Juventus and according to reports a transfer fee for the Dutchmam is around €100 million. The question on whether Chelsea would be willing to spend that much on a player has been answered in the affirmative by numerous sources with Juventus reportedly willing to negotiate for the defender.
According to Sport Mediaset via Sport Witness, De Ligt has heard about the interest of clubs like Chelsea and Barcelona and he’s ‘flattered.’
They go on to say that the Netherlands international has decided to change clubs in the summer. Hence he’s open for a move to Chelsea or any other club.
It promises to be a very interesting summer ahead as a lot of big names would be on the market and as for De Ligt, the story is still a developing one and it is certainly worth keeping an eye on.
