Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger just entered into the final five months of his contract and speculations over his future at the club has lingered in the air for some time now.
Rudiger whose current earnings stand at around £100,000 per week had initially rejected a new contract offer from Chelsea worth £140,000 per week, casting doubts over his future at the club with the likes of PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich reportedly interested.
There’s been a recent air of optimism around both Chelsea and Rudiger that the German defender would eventually sign a contract extension but Daily Mail has just reported that the 28-year old has rejected a new improved offer from the club in the region of £200,000 per week.
Daily Mail says that talks would however continue between Chelsea and Rudiger as both parties seek to find a solution. Antonio Rudiger is seen as a key player for Thomas Tuchel and as such the Blues are willing to tie him down to a new contract beyond the summer.
“The lines of communication between both parties are open with a view to finding a resolution, and Chelsea remain optimistic that they can strike a deal to keep their stalwart defender.”
“But it appears likely that they will have to make an increased offer to Rudiger to ensure they keep a player who head coach Thomas Tuchel views crucial to his plans.”
